What is Humane Education?

Humane Education teaches compassion for animals, kindness towards people, and respect for the environment. It fosters in individuals a sense of empathy that extends to the entire web of life — animals, humans, and the natural world.  It teaches that all sentient beings are connected, and that people have responsibilities to each other and for the care of the environment.

Humane Education encourages independent, critical thinking, allowing individuals to evaluate and challenge injustice. The goal of Humane Education is the development of a compassionate, fair, and environmentally sustainable society.

Humane Education is the core of our work at ACTAsia. We train Humane Educators who teach children in a variety of settings, including public schools, community centers, and camps. Our full-year public school course – “Caring for Life” – helps children develop into more compassionate citizens with responsible values.
